Practice-Based Engineering Education
Practice-Based Engineering Education is an educational model that enables students to complete one academic semester through full-time practical training at an institution or organization operating in the relevant field of their department/program. Within this framework, it is aimed that students transfer the theoretical knowledge gained at the university to a real working environment, improve their professional competencies, develop work discipline and a sense of responsibility, and gain sectoral experience prior to graduation.
The training covers one semester and is carried out for a period of 14 weeks. Regular attendance at the workplace is essential throughout the training period. The host institution or organization is expected to operate in the student’s field, provide an appropriate working environment and technical infrastructure, and assign a workplace supervisor to guide the student. The suitability of the training site and placement procedures are carried out in accordance with the schedule announced for the relevant term and are finalized upon the evaluation conducted by the department.
Application requirements are assessed within the framework of the rules defined in the relevant regulation, primarily including the eligible semester, cumulative grade point average, and course load criteria. Applications must be submitted within the announced deadlines and with all required documents completed. During the training period, students are required to comply with occupational health and safety rules, adhere to workplace order and discipline, perform assigned duties with due responsibility, and act in accordance with the confidentiality principles determined by the institution/organization.
Throughout the training period, students are required to prepare the requested reports and records in compliance with the specified procedures and principles, and to submit them within the defined deadlines. The assessment of success is conducted based on the workplace supervisor’s evaluation, the academic advisor’s evaluation, and the criteria set forth in the regulation. Matters related to remuneration, insurance, and other administrative procedures are carried out within the framework of the relevant legislation and implementation principles.
